Who knows what the Lord can do?

I think it was about a year ago that I had this crazy notion that it might be cool to adopt some kids. My thoughts were now that I know the Lord and am not a dead beat dad anymore it might be fun to give it another try. To raise some kids in the way of the Lord. Why not right? So I ask Priscilla, "Honey what do you think about adoption?" She rapidly responds, "I think it would be great! I have always wanted to adopt some African children." Me being mister practical quickly remind my lovely wife that there are plenty of children right here in Albuquerque that need some folks to love on them. To which she says, "Yeah I know but I would still like to adopt some African children." Well in my mind that was out. I guess it was just a crazy notion anyway right?
So last month when my passport privileges were reinstated and I was almost immediately asked to pray about taking a trip out to Uganda Africa I did not think anything about it. As asked I prayed about it for a couple of days, then I shared it with my wife who immediately said, "well we had better pray!" This is of course to my shock and wonder as I have asked for her thoughts about possibly going to the Philippines or Belize and both spots were dismissed with a crinkle of the nose and a solid "I don't think so."
So now I am totally getting excited because my heart has been to "go out." Not sure where or when just believing we are being called to go out. A few days go by we are praying and seeking the Lord desiring to hear what He has to say about Uganda wanting to make sure we are in His will and not mine. We are sitting at the dinner table having some tacos when all of a sudden my wife starts crying/laughing! I'm like what in the world is going on?!!! She looks up at me and says, "And you said I couldn't have any African babies." Needless to say I too start crying/laughing as we both start praising the Lord and thanking Him for the wild ways in which He brings things to pass. The preparation and guiding that He does long before the desire is fully birthed or even conceived. Our God is great and greatly to be praised!!!! I think I Corinthians 2.9 says it far better than I can. "Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him."

It is simply amazing to me how much work really goes into mission trips. The planning, phone tag, more planning, did I mention prayer, more planning, scheduling, itineraries, more prayer, difinately prayer! "Prayer is the engine that drives the hand of God." Even as Priscilla and I prepare to possibly go out to Uganda as long term missionaries I am stunned at how "tied" to our stuff we are. The house, cars, all the house hold goods. I thought I was free?!??!? The more I see this plan develop the more stuff I find that has to be dealt with provided for or sold. It is mind boggling!! Don't get me wrong I am by no means a minimalist, it is the Lord who has blessed us with the house and the cars and the stuff, but how easy it is to be deceived into believing that I must provide a safe place for all the "stuff." WOW!!!! The planning is going well; I believe we have narrowed down an itinerary and are excited to see how the Lord works it all out.

In the Beginning...

Well here it is, the very first post on a totally "new thing" for me, blogging. Currently Priscilla and I are praying about His call in our lives. Jinja, Uganda in East Africa!!! Yes we are totally excited to see how the Lord is going to do this. We are preparing for a vision trip in June, three whole weeks!
